Who we are

The Hellenic Financial Mediation Center aims at promoting mediation, which is a well recognized and widely used out-of-court alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process, to resolve disputes between parties in the financial service sector.

In particular, the Center provides a wide range of administrative and support services to facilitate mediation processes (including the Mandatory Initial Mediation Session as described in Law 4640/2019). It also provides a list of accredited mediators trained in banking & finance by the Center, in collaboration with the Hellenic Banking Institute (List of Trained Financial Mediators).

The Center operates within the organizational structure of the Hellenic Financial Ombudsman (HFO), which is a specialized ADR entity (operating since 1999), registered in the Register of ADR entities of the General Secretariat for Trade and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Development & Investments.

The Director of the Center is responsible for managing the Center on a day-to-day basis and the Legal Advisor provides legal support for all activities necessary for the operation of the Center. The Center is also supported by an independent Scientific Council, which provides scientific advice in emerging ADR issues.
